All Abalone Are Deaf

All Abalone Are Deaf

by Felix Macias, Jr.

Felix Macias, deaf author of All Abalone Are Deaf, has been an avid fan of abalone since his first diving experience in 1988.  An Indiana transplant to the Northern California coast, Felix has spiced his book with his irreverent sense of humor and plenty of good advice to the novice and experienced abalone hunter.  Dive into the book to learn all you ever wanted to know about abalone.  Be sure to try some or all of the delicious abalone recipes presented in his book.

Felix, who is also a park ranger at Salt Point State Park, has a second book, All Fish Are Deaf.

Bluewater Gold Rush

Bluewater Gold Rush

The Odyssey of a California Sea Urchin Diver

by Tom Kendrick

An avid Santa Barbara surfer gets into sea urchin diving as a means to explore the waves of the Channel Islands.  His travels take him from the harbor of Santa Barbara to the harsh waters of the North Coast, and the shark-infested Farallon Islands.  This intimate snapshot follows a unique group of underwater pioneers from 1978 through 1996, chronicling the adventure, humor, and tragedy of the people involved in this way of life.

Tom and his wife are now residents of Sebastopol.

An American Underwater Odyssey

An American Underwater Odyssey

50 Dives in 50 States

by Charles Ballinger

Chuck Ballinger has written about the unique diving available in each of our 50 states — diving you rarely read about in magazines.  His dogged determination to follow his dreams and explore everything from flooded missle sites to abandoned mines should be an inspiration to each of us.  Underwater Odyssey transcends the limits of a dive guide to reveal the broader adventure that diving provides.  Ballinger sets out on a personal journey that each of us ought to take, in our own way, at least once in a lifetime.

Chuck is a long time club member and former board of directors member of the Marin SCUBA Club.
