alpha  San Francisco's ANNUAL ITALIAN HERITAGE PARADE  Sunday, October 12, 2014

San Francisco's Annual Italian Heritage Parade, the City's oldest civic event and the nation's oldest Italian-American parade and community celebration, winds its way from Fisherman's Wharf to North Beach.  The parade, a San Francisco institution since it was established in 1868, promises to be bigger, better and more colorful than ever this year.

Highlights

  • Handcrafted parade floats featuring Bay Area businesses, community groups, and Italian organizations.
  • Local high school Italian clubs and marching bands.
  • Special appearances by “Christopher Columbus” and Queen Isabella and Her Court.
  • Festive open-air dining and Italian wine and food specials at North Beach restaurants lining the parade route.
  • Performances by a variety of traditional Italian musicians and performance artists.
  • Special appearances by Bay Area and Italian-American celebrities.

The Parade begins at 12:30 pm at the foot of Jefferson and Stockton Streets in Fisherman's Wharf, proceeds south through North Beach on Columbus Avenue, and ends in Washington Square in front of Saints Peter and Paul Church.  Parade viewing is available throughout the route.

Admission to all parade activities, including the Ferrari Sports Car display in Washington Square Park and a variety of hands-on activities for children and families, is FREE!

United States Navy Blue Angels  ■  United States Navy Leap Frogs Parachute Team  ■  Parade of Navy Ships making their way under the Golden Gate Bridge  ■  Navy ship tours  ■  Blue Angels' Meet and Greet

Once again, it is the time of the year when excitement literally flies, drops and sails into San Francisco for five days, offering residents and visitors along waterfront communities facing northern San Francisco many opportunities for exhilarating and fun activities great for the whole family.  Better yet, some activities are FREE!  Cross our fingers for a great turnout, since the schedule of events is subject to change without notice.

  • October 9, 12:00pm-5:00pm — The Blue Angels' arrival and practice in previous years included a north-south flyby over Belvedere, Tiburon, the bay and straight into San Francisco, announcing the teams arrival.  Cross our fingers for a repeat and an opportunity to see this year since the maneuver is not done during the air show rehearsal or the two air shows.
  • October 10, 12:30pm-4:00pm (Blue Angels from 3:00pm-4:00pm) — Air show rehearsal.
  • October 11, 12:30pm-4:00pm (Blue Angels from 3:00pm-4:00pm) — Air show.
